Kathmandu: The joint meeting of the central working committee (CWC) and the parliamentary party of the main opposition, Nepali Congress (NC), is scheduled for May 22. Krishna Prasad Paudel, Chief Secretary of the NC Central Office, announced that the meeting will discuss contemporary political developments. It will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the party's central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur.
The NC has expressed dissatisfaction with Speaker Devraj Ghimire, accusing him of bias. During today's House of Representatives meeting, the NC Parliamentary Party questioned the Speaker's role, alleging that he advanced the parliamentary agenda amid opposition protests and slogans. The party criticized Speaker Ghimire for undermining parliamentary norms and values by acting like a party member.
A statement from the NC Parliamentary Party highlighted concerns over the Speaker's handling of the Prime Minister's vote of confidence amidst opposition protests, accusing him of not allowing NC lawmakers to voice their views. At a press conference, Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak emphasized that the Speaker should not behave like a party cadre and called for adherence to democratic and parliamentary norms.
The opposition, including the NC, has demanded the formation of a parliamentary probe committee to investigate embezzlement in financial cooperatives. The NC criticized the decision to proceed with the vote of confidence without forming such a committee, despite having ample time to do so.
